Gaia Updated to v2.04 - Fixes Stability

Drizztbsd, has informed us that a new version of his popular Gaia Manager app has been released, bringing the latest version to 2.04. The new version brings added stability and removes the ability to direct boot (due to it not working properly anyways). For those of you concerned with if this uses the latest LV2 Patcher, the latest LV2 Patcher is actually based off of Gaia 2.04 (utilizing it's patch.txt).

Hermes CFW 3.41 Version 1.0 (BETA) Released

Hermes, famous for his payload work, has released his first custom firmware (CFW) today. Unlike the other CFW's available, Hermes decided to release a CFW based off of 3.41 firmware. The firmware basically allows you to jailbreak your console on 3.41 without the need for a dongle, useful for those not planning to update to 3.55. We must stress this is still a beta release and when flashing a custom firmware there is always a chance of bricking.

Download: PS3customfirm3.41_ psgroove-hermes_v4b.zip (45.07 MB)

tested IN:

CECHC04 (my model, 3 times with different changes, FAT 60GB)
CECHG04 (FAT)
CECHH04 (FAT 40GB)
CECHL04 (FAT 80 gb)
CECH2504B (slim)
CECH2404A (slim)
CECH2004A (slim)
CECH2004B (slim)

Hermes CFW 3.41 version 1.0 (BETA)
----------------------------------

WARNING! This modified firware is tested only by two persons (it is experimental!!!) with this models:

CECHC04 (my model, 3 times with different changes, FAT 60GB)
CECHG04 (FAT)
CECHH04 (FAT 40GB)
CECHL04 (FAT 80 gb)
CECH2504B (slim)
CECH2404A (slim)
CECH2004A (slim)
CECH2004B (slim)

I cannot be sure if it can brick others models (don´t use this CFW if you have buy your console with 3.50+, you can brick it!)

I am not responsible if this CFW brick you console: I have taken all possible precautions using SHA1 hash to avoid errors building
the firmware, etc, and other problems (i include too my own patch utility to be sure you apply the patch correctly).

Building the firmware:

Put original PS3UPDAT.PUP (3.41 v2) with patch.bat and run patch.bat. It must create CFW341_PS3UPDAT.PUP.

Put CFW341_PS3UPDAT.PUP as PS3UPDAT.PUP in one pendrive (usb:/PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP) and try toupdate normally from the device.

If it say "you have this version yet" try the restoration - recovery method (pressing POWER. Ask about this method if you don´t know in the forums)

Features:

- LV1 patch for undocumented v1_undocumented_function_114 (kudos for flukes1/graf_chokolo) 1 byte, don´t worry! XD

- LV2 peek/poke patch (original from psgroove)

- vsh.self patch to enable .self (same patch as psgroove-hermes_v4B. To launch self requires the payload working)

- nas_plugin.sprx patch to enable packages (same patch as psgroove-hermes_v4B. You can install PSL1GHT original packages but requires
geohot make_self_npdrm without one payload working)

- category_game.xml modified to enable packages (kudos for KaKaRoTo)

With this options PS3 works with Homebrew signed (use make_self_npdrm in the EBOOT.BIN).

Working:

Install payloadhv4.pkg and launch it to load the psgroove-hermes_v4B

NOTE: payload code is experimental. I need to work in the application and the payload to add news features.
don't worry about the source code now: this is a beta test version yet, but the source code will soon available.

SNES9x PS3 4.4.4 Released

squarepusher brings us an update to his popular SNES9x emulator for the PS3. The latest release brings us many bug fixes, new control schemes, and fixes for Chrono Trigger.

Download: snes9x-ps3-v4.4.4.zip (14.37 MB)

================================================== =============================
Build 4.4.4 (19-01-2010)
================================================== =============================
- FIXED: (CHRONO TRIGGER SCREEN HEIGHT JUMPING BUG)
================================================== =============================
Chrono Trigger would jump from 256x224 to 256x239 for one odd frame when
transitioning from normal mode to battle mode - this caused an undesirable
screen hiccup to occur everytime. This issue has been fixed.

================================================== =============================
- FIXED: Player 2 - Buttons X/Y didn't work
================================================== =============================
This bug was introduced in v4.4.3 due to an improper macro. It has now been
fixed as of v4.4.4.

================================================== =============================
- FIXED: Loading a ROM with a cheatfile loaded and then loading another ROM
with no cheatfile will not clear out the previous game's cheats
================================================== =============================
This bug was introduced in v4.4.0, and has now been fixed as of v4.4.4. Also
note that games which do not have a cheatfile will create a new cheatfile
automatically.

================================================== =============================
- FIXED: Super Scope controls auto-centered when let go of thumbstick
- ADDED: Better Super Scope controls
================================================== =============================
Previously in v4.4.3, the Super Scope crosshair would center back to the middle
of the screen as soon as you let go of the thumbstick on the left analog stick.
Now it controls much more closely to the mouse. Note that there might be an
option to toggle the Super Scope controls in the future (to either auto-center
when let go of the thumbstick or let the cursor stay at the current position).

================================================== =============================
- FIXED: Some games were hooked up with patchy controls (Doom)
- ADDED: Accessory Autodetection
================================================== =============================
The accessory autodetection in v4.4.2/4.4.3 left some things to be desired.
A new setting has been added to the SNES9x Settings screen - 'Accessory Auto-
detection'.

SNES9x PS3 auto-detects most games that feature support for these peripherals.
This setting will control how SNES9x PS3 will deal with these games when it
detects them.

CONFIRM - When detecting a Mouse/Scope/Multitap-compatible game, a dialog
screen is presented to the user asking him/her if the accessory
should be enabled. If you select 'No', normal 2 joypad controls
will be used instead.
ON - Games which support Mouse/Scope/Multitap will be automatically
detected and the accessory will be automatically enabled without
any input from the user.
OFF - Accessories will not be detected or enabled - standard 2 joypad
controls for all games.

================================================== =============================
- ADDED: Control Schemes
================================================== =============================
There are now three [Control Schemes] - 'Default', 'New', and 'Custom'.

DEFAULT - Controls are the same as they were before.

NEW - A new control scheme. See below:

R3 + L3 - [Exit to Menu] - go back to the ROM Browser
menu.

Right analog stick - Up - SNES9x pause (supersedes regular SNES pause).
Right analog stick - Left - Decrement fastforward speed by one (-1).
Right analog stick - Right - Increment fastforward speed by one (+1).
Right analog stick - Down - Toggle [Fastforwarding] on/off.

Right analog stick - Left + L2 - Decrement cheat position by one (-1).
Right analog stick - Right + L2 - Increment cheat position by one (+1).
Right analog stick - Up + L2 - Toggle the currently selected cheat on/off.
Right analog stick - Down + L2 - Input a cheat with an on-screen keyboard.

Right analog stick - Left + R2 - Decrement save state slot by one (-1).
Right analog stick - Right + R2 - Increment save state slot by one (+1).
Right analog stick - Up + R2 - Load from currently selected save state slot.
Right analog stick - Down + R2 - Save to currently selected save state slot.
R2 + R3 - Toggle [SRAM Write Protection] on/off.

L2 + R3 - Toggle [Record Movie] on/off.
L2 + L3 - Load Movie

CUSTOM - Custom control scheme. All buttons/button combos can be
customized.

================================================== =============================
- ADDED: Savestate SRAM Overwrite Protect
================================================== =============================
Implemented by request - see Issue 8: Loading a save state also load the
associated save ram file and write it to disk right away.
(URL: https://code.google.com/p/snes9x-ps3...ail?id=8&can=1)

Normally, when SNES9x loads a savestate, the SRAM contents are automatically
overwritten. The ugly side-effect of this is that this can unknowingly
delete your normal saved game progress.

ON - SNES9x will write-protect SRAM - this means that if you load a save-
state, it will not overwrite the SRAM save(s). However, SRAM is not
saved at all in this mode.
OFF - SRAM is writable - this means that if you load a savestate, it will
overwrite the SRAM save(s).

NOTE: This option can be toggled in-game with the 'New' control scheme by
pressing button combo [R2 + R3].

================================================== =============================
- ADDED: Cheat Code Input In-game with Onscreen Keyboard
================================================== =============================
Cheatcodes can now be inserted with an onscreen keyboard in-game. A new
action has been added called 'Cheat Input'.

Cheatcodes that you add will be saved to your cheatfile. Currently, the cheat
code will be added in order.

NOTE: This option can be toggled in-game with the 'New' control scheme by
pressing button combo [L2 + Analog Stick Right - Down].

NOTE: There is still a bug that happens after inserting 15/16 cheat codes
in a row.

When this bug happens, you will no longer be presented with the option to
input a label after correctly inputting a cheat. Instead, the label will be
the cheat code itself. This is a memory shortage bug that we hope to fix soon.

================================================== =============================
- ADDED: Resolution saving
================================================== =============================
Implemented by request - see Issue 18: Screen resolution does not save upon
exit
(URL: https://code.google.com/p/snes9x-ps3...il?id=18&can=1)

The resolution you had previously played in will now be automatically selected
when you start SNES9x the next time.

There are also sane fallbacks. If SNES9x saved the resolution at 1080p and the
next time you want to play SNES9x you happen to have your PS3 connected to a
screen that doesn't support 1080p - it will fall back to a lower resolution
that your TV does support.

================================================== =============================
- ADDED: Throttle Mode
================================================== =============================
This is a performance benchmarking feature that might or might not be useful
to users. Turn this 'Off', and VSync and audio will be disabled - the game
will then run at the maximum amount of frames per second (FPS) that the PS3
can manage.

NOTE: There seems to be a hardware/software cap of 124/125fps that appears to
be prevalent even in menus.

PL3 File Permissions Fix For Kmeaw CFW – Solves Backups Freezing

festizio, from #ps3test on Efnet, has written a nice guide for anyone experiencing backups freezing on Kmeaw CFW. The issue itself is actually due to improper file permissions with PL3, which this PKG fixes.

Download: FIX_PERMISSIONS_Waninkoko_Kmeaw_CFW_3.55.pkg (100 KB)
Download: FIX_PERMISSIONS_Wutangrza_Geohot_CFW_3.55.pkg (100 KB)

It seems that alot of folks are having issues installing and running backups on there Ps3′s due to the bug in PL3 that effects file permissions. Here is what I have been doing to get around the black screen hangs and disc read errors.

1. fire up multiman, blackb0x, whatever ftp & transfer your backup
2. run your lv2 pkg of choice
3. run the fix permissions app that is installed from running the package located here – http://www.mediafire.com/?cyi363utdttieux

The app will go through the HD and correct the file permission errors that come with using PL3. I have been using this method after each game backup I install,
however if you install (ftp/copy) 5 at a time the app only needs to be run once and it will fix all 5 games as it does its magic to the entire drive.
Now as far as USB, hampster driven HD’s etc I can not say as I do not have any of the above so I have not tested it myself.

Gaia Manager 2.0/2.01 Brings Wutangrza CFW Support - LV2 Autopatching Added

Another has been added to the list of current managers such as multiman and rogero to support the new CUSTOM FIRMWARES this one was updated to support the now famous dev wuntangrza’s CFW and its another port of the famous OPEN MANAGER manager. All you got to do is install the lvl2 patch and you can run the manager and your good to go with your legal backups. An update would soon be released for this manager that would automatically patch lvl2 and would no longer require Kmeaw’s patch.

http://www.ps3hax.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/logo.png

My favourite — drizztbsd’s Manager — is now available for Wutangrza’s CFW. You’ll also need kmeaw’s LV2 patcher pkg, but not for long… A new version of Manager is under development that’ll automatically patch the necessary bits and bytes in LV2, just like kmeaw. Stay tuned for that. Till then…

SOURCE

UPDATE1:

The manager has now been updated to version 2.1 which brings Kmeaw CFW LV2 patching, to quote:
V2.01 (3.55 CFW only) Features:
It does not try to load the syscall every time you start Manager, but only the first time. that should be fix some crashes when reopening Manager. It’s reported that if the PS3 crashes sometimes you will need to do an hard power off / power on (detaching cable and reataching).”

Nice new update, download below:

Kmeaw Backup Manager Patch For Wutangrza CFW Released

A dev who goes by the name of kmeaw, from the IRC channel #ps3test, has made it possible to run Backup Managers on Wutangrza CFW. He provides a PKG which you can download and install below. Prior to running your favorite backup manager on Wutangrza's firmware, it is necessary to run the kmeaw package each time. Kmeaw also released his own CFW, which is shaping up to be the best choice so far. His CFW has the patches for backup managers built right in. This allows backup managers to run similarly to how they were run on 3.41 jailbreaks. Allowing them to run without the need for anything additional or special.

"Basically it's a simple PKG you need to launch before running any backup manager. It will patch lv2 and add syscalls in memory. They are removed once you power off. Safe and efficient!"

"First run the PKG, then run the Backup Manager. When rebooting, you need to repeat the process."

Download PKG: MultiUpload

If you don't have Wutangrza's Firmware installed then just download Kmeaw's prepatched CFW PUP and install over 3.55 OFW

Kmeaw Prepatched CFW Download

Mirror 1 | Mirror 2

More info (instructions): PS3 CFWs with backup managers

kmeaw's CFW is different from FLUKES1 and Wutangrza and anyone elses.

Basically kmeaws CFW has peek/poke and allows you to bypass PKG checks, like how it used to work on 3.41 . Therefore you don't need to sign stuff like Geohots CFW.

Wutangrza's CFW is basically what flukes1 released it just has peek/poke enabled but you can't install PKG's.

Geohot's CFW can be installed over the top on Wutangrza's CFW and allows you to install special signed PKG's.

This LV2.pkg patch can be loaded from any CFW that has peek/poke, and adds syscalls for backup managers etc.

SUMMARY :

On Wutangrza's/Geohot Firmware you have to use pkg's signed with geohots tools.
On Kmeaw's Firmware you can install any pkg. Like the ones from 3.41 and ones signed with geohot tools.
Disclaimer: This package is for demonstration use only, or for running your own made software (homebrew). We do noit condone piracy and are not responsible of the small chance you may brick.

Original FW PUP md5 before patching: ca595ad9f3af8f1491d9c9b6921a8c61
Patched PUP md5 after patching: 2be5e87a22bf1e7f48e98fcabd38977b

If you are on Wutangrza+geohot fw, you dont need to flash the new firmware, just install the package, and run it every time the ps3 boots before running apps that need PL3.
Otherwise, it is suggested that you upgrade to 3.55, Upgrade to this patched PUP, then install the lv2.pkg.

This is only until apps are updated to include this patch themselves, as then you wont need to run the patcher on every boot.

For Stock ps3's

1. update to official 3.55
2. bspatch PS3UPDAT.PUP PS3CFW.PUP patchfile
3. Delete PS3UPDAT.PUP
4. Rename PS3CFW.PUP to PS3UPDAT.PUP and that's it! You're ready to install
5. Install lvl2.pkg
6. Launch backups with manager

Tutorial - How to Install Kmeaw CFW - No Bricking + Backups + PSN

With the latest developments on the PS3 scene, it seems that Wutangrza has finally managed to get backups to run on PS3 fw 3.55 with his CFW (custom firmware). Now to lay out a few ground rules before I go on with this tutorial. Please understand that there are 3 different main CFW floating around right now. They are Geohots, Wutangrza, Waninkoko and kmeaw CFW; feel free to read more about each one and learn about them before contuning with this guide. Please note that the Waninkoko has a high rate of PS3 bricking so it is not recommended, where as the Wutangrza CFW or kmeaw CFW (what this guide will cover), almost no reports of bricked PS3′s have been reported. So if something went wrong, you didn’t follow the directions below.

This guide will teach you how to install kmeaw CFW, how to enable the use of backup managers and play backed up (legal) games/homebrew and connect to PSN. This guide works for almost every other current CFW (minus the files). This guide is for educational purposes only.

Lets get started….

Step 0

  • Download the original PS3 firmware 3.55 here or here.

Update your PS3 to the original PS3 firmware 3.55 (regardless of what CFW your currently are).

Step 1

In this step we will create the patched custom firmware. You can either make your OWN patched CFW or download a prepatched one. Due to legal reasons we will not link the prepatched PUP in this tutorial, but you are free to “google” it. Just make sure you know the source of the prepatched PUP and the MD5/SHA1 match up. We will show you how to make your own (windows).

  • Download the required the files for CFW here.
  • Download the original PS3 firmware 3.55 here or here (same as the one your downloaded in Step 0)
  1. Extract the kmeaw_cfw_lv2.pkg.rar folder and copy the original PS3 3.55 CFW (PS3UPDAT.PUP) inside the your folder (see screenshot)
  2. Open command prompt (Start > CMD)
  3. Navigate to your folder (type in cd C:UsersAdminDirectory to kmeaw_cfw_lv2 folder and press Enter)
  4. Once there, type in the following exactly as shown in bold:
  5. bspatch PS3UPDAT.PUP PS3CFW.PUP patchfile

  6. Let it run and do the patching, then you should now see a “PS3CFW.PUP” folder in your folder.
  7. Delete the original PS3UPDAT.pup and rename “PS3CFW.pup” to PS3UPDAT.pup
  8. You have now created your patched CFW and are now ready to update.
  9. Before proceeding please make sure that the MD5 should be the following (or for any you find online):

Original FW PUP md5 before patching: ca595ad9f3af8f1491d9c9b6921a8c61
Patched PUP md5 after patching: 2be5e87a22bf1e7f48e98fcabd38977b

Step 2

Time to install the custom firmware. This step is pretty much standard for all/any patched CFW file you may be using. Copy the newly created and renamed PS3UPDAT.PUP to your flash drive (/PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP). And now update your PS3 firmware as normal via XMB.

Note: If you get a error saying that your already at the latest update and it kicks you out, then you need to update your PS3 CFW via RECOVERY mode. TO boot into recover mode read THIS.

I got that error first time going through so I went ahead via recovery menu to complete the process.

If you see this on your XMB then the CFW installed properly:

Step 3

Now that CFW is installed its time to get the backup managers to work.

  • Download Kmeaw Patch here

This is a PKG which you install via PKG option in XMB. You have to run this whenever you want to run the backup manager (per restart). This PKG does certain things I will not go into that allows backup managers to run with this particular CFW. It is likely that backupmanagers in the future will build this feature in so do some research on this once this guide gets a bit dated.

Step 4

Install a backup manager (must be signed), I recommend and am using Rogero manager v7.8:

Some notes on backup managers – you must have any original PS3 game inside and you must boot from XMB.

And there you go, you should have backups + PSN now running on your PS3 :)
Please reply back with any questions/helps and your results!

Well... I don't know if those problems are real or just jokes. As I said, some testers tried this and worked in both models. 4 minutes ago via web Retweeted by 7 people

Do NOT install in Slim consoles! Looks like users are reporting bricking issues. That's weird as the CFW was tested on both models. 6 minutes ago via web Retweeted by 17 people

Proper PS3 LV1/LV2 Patching Solution Soon

Georgie boy wasn’t joking around when he said don’t patch LV2, but that hasn’t stopped flukes1 any… Sure the first couple attempts resulted in bricks, but that’s part of the trial and error game. Soon flukes1 will unveil the method used to successfully hijack and assume complete control over LV1 and LV2; the most difficult being Sony’s LV2 memory protection introduced in firmware 3.55. Anyway, after all this info is made public, you can bet a working Backup Manager will follow.

Quoted from flukes1 via dukio:

flukes1: we have full control of lv1 and lv2 from our test application running as a normal pkg under gameos
flukes1: the issue with lv2 pokes causing shutdown was caused by some protection added in 3.55
flukes1: we found it and disabled it
flukes1: i’m not finished
flukes1: this is the bit you won’t like: there will be no public release
flukes1: as i said, ill release some info
flukes1: if you want BMs to run on 3.55 you need to compromise lv1 and lv2
flukes1: well I seriously wish I could release all this shit at no personal risk
flukes1: I like you guys but it’s not worth it
flukes1: if they know it was me, they can still say it was me and prove it by looking though my computer etc etc
flukes1: so no, i can’t just release it anonymously
flukes1: tbh though
flukes1: the only difficult part is disabling lv2 memory protection
flukes1: and that information will become public soon
flukes1: i’ll post a video on youtube on sunday when I get home
flukes1: game running from hdd under multiman
flukes1: i’ll do a video, i guess sony can’t kick off about that

Thanks for the heads up, hugo.

Update: Then again, maybe not… Updated at the source flukes1 states: “to correct an earlier statement: I won’t be posting *anything* including video or info until I speak to a lawyer and they OK it” Fair enough. Play it safe… I don’t know what the UK laws are like.
